WORK on a major Yorkshire shopping centre is set to resume shortly, it is understood.
The £200m Trinity Walk scheme in Wakefield was acquired by a joint venture company comprising of Sovereign Land, AREA Property Partners and York-based Shepherd Construction last October.
The consortium stepped in to buy the site from administrators KPMG after the scheme had become a victim of the downturn in 2009.
Work on the 500,000 sq ft shopping centre started in 2007 but was halted when the problems arose.
Originally the development was a joint venture between Modus and CIREF.
When the project went into administration it had reached the halfway stage with work on highways, a market hall, car park and the steel frames for the two largest tenants, Sainsburys and Debenhams, being almost completed and 52% of the floor space pre-let.
Building contractor Shepherd Construction is understood to back on site, preparing to recommence the development.
The scheme is planned to be completed in spring 2011.
